Romania's national team player Cristina Neagu won the title of top scorer of the European Championship in Denmark and Norway, with a total of 53 goals scored in eight matches within the final tournament. At only 22, Neagu was also chosen on the All Star Team of the European Championship, being declared the best left-side player.
The six goals scored by Neagu in the small final, which was won against Denmark by a slim 16-15, increased her records to 53 goals in the entire competition. The Romanian handball player had to wait for the big final between Norway and Sweden to be certain of the top scorer title, since the second in the chart of scorers, Swede Linnea Torstenson, was beginning the match with 45 goals scored. Torstenson however failed to score nine goals in the match against Norway so she landed the second position in the chart of scorers, with a total of 48 goals. Third was Bojana Popovic (Montenegro), with 46 goals.
On January 9 in Paris, Neagu will learn if she is the best player of the world, the International handball Federations currently conducting a survey on this matter.
